In the past century, protesting has become a major way for people to push back against large companies and demand their needs. One method of protesting that has been especially effective in achieving this goal is striking.

A major company currently facing worker strikes is Boeing. The strike began on September 13th, 2024, and has continued since then. It was initiated by the machinists of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) District 751, who voted overwhelmingly to reject a contract offer and go on strike.

This strike resulted in a new four-year labor deal that included 38% raises and a $12,000 ratification bonus. Because of the strike, Boeing’s production was severely impacted, creating financial strain for both the company and its workers. The strike ended on November 5th, 2024, with the agreement of the four-year contract.

Boeing is still trying to recover, having lost $4.5 billion. This is a massive sum, and the company doesn’t expect to fully bounce back anytime soon, especially since public trust remains low following the crashes of two 737 aircraft. Boeing is also still working to recover revenue lost due to the negative publicity from those incidents.
