Through the Lens: How the Love of Cars Turned into a Visual Craft

For Max, the love of cars wasn’t a phase; it was practically inherited. His earliest memories are filled with miniature cars and weekends spent around his dad’s Porsche-loving friends. One of his first words? Auto (meaning car in German). Growing up in a car-obsessed household, it was only natural that his weekends were soon filled with car shows and conversations about engines, models, and builds.
But there was another influence always present in the background: photography. Max’s dad carried a camera everywhere, capturing everyday moments through the lens. By ten, Max had his own camera, a Canon Rebel T5, and while his interest dipped for a few years, it wasn’t long before the car shows and the camera clicked together. Photographing cars became an outlet to combine the two interests into a passion.
As he got older, car shows became more than just weekend outings. They were opportunities to network, to connect with owners, to refine his eye for lighting, composition, and editing. He began collaborating with car enthusiasts, learning what worked, and discovering how to make his work stand out.
His biggest challenge? Managing time and expectations. At first, Max took the “reach out to everyone” approach, and it worked. But soon he realized that he couldn’t keep up with demand while juggling school and editing hours. The real growth came when he began prioritizing, focusing on clients who aligned with his values and who appreciated the quality he brought to the table.
Pricing his work was another hurdle. Figuring out what his time was worth and what people were actually willing to pay meant trial and error. Should he charge by the model? The hour? Eventually, he found a rhythm. Alongside client work, Max also discovered Adobe Stock, a platform where he could passively monetize his photography. It wasn’t easy; legal logistics and submission standards were their own learning curve, but it offered a new path, turning something he was already passionate about into something sustainable.
Looking forward, Max hopes to expand into videography and grow his online presence. He dreams of becoming an official photographer for events, gaining deeper access to the world he loves most. But more than anything, he wants to build something lasting, a collection of work that reflects not only his love of cars and photography but the years of effort and learning behind every image.
