Since Vieira was a kid, like many budding entrepreneurs, she wanted to start a business, even if it meant selling slime on the street to passersby. For those who know the world of startups and businesses, it probably doesn’t come as a surprise that these ventures didn’t immediately work out. However, it was less of a problem with the fundamentals of the businesses and more so because she couldn’t find her way to invest time and effort into various out-of-the-blue ideas.
After having stepped away from space for many years, she realized she wanted to make a difference in her community. So went looking for a common problem to solve. It occurred to her that in the rising age of digitization, lots of local businesses(specifically smaller ones) were struggling to connect with their customers online. Using her marketing knowledge and passion for creative content creation such as videography and campaign creation, she realized she could help local businesses thrive online, by further expanding their customer reach.
That’s where Silke Media was born, to help with digital marketing, whether that be web design, social media, content creation, or establishing a digital presence from nothing. When starting out, she didn’t know if she had what it took to operate her agency, so she sought to fill in the gaps in her knowledge by reaching out to people who were a bit older and who had more experience in the area. She found a couple of others to work with, but soon came to the realization that because she was young and wanted to do something, everyone else would take the backseat to take advantage of having someone to do all the work while they prioritized other things. While they all shared a common vision, she knew that parting ways was in the best interest of her brand.
Since then, she’s learned several valuable lessons, one of which is that it is not only important to be with the right clients but also with the right stakeholders in the business itself. She also learned that “it’s really easy to underestimate yourself,” and that’s especially true when you’re young and looking up to the big fish in the pond. Vieira became aware that she had time on her side and was at a significantly lower risk of learning a skill from scratch than she would in later parts of her life. This is, in part, why YBC’s mission is to get youth into the business space, as we youth have time on our side to learn, fail, and try again.
Silke Media is proudly rooted in the greater Seattle area, focusing on building genuine, location-based relationships with its clients. Rather than stretching itself thin in pursuit of the next deal, the agency prioritizes meaningful connections over mass outreach, setting itself apart from the typical marketing firm.
